If you’ve ridden down 1st and 2nd streets recently, you’ve probably had the chance to test out the new bike lanes. These lanes should remind drivers to slow down and move over to the left when cyclists are present. They are also a great way to raise awareness of this alternative mode of transportation.

What are your thoughts on the bike lanes? Where do you hope to see them in the future?

    1. Congrats on your new bike lanes! I’ve just launched a new bicycle lane safety campaign geared toward keeping our bike lanes free of vehicles. Please check it out at http://www.iblockthebikelane.com.

    2. Bike lanes don’t make me feel safe. I prefer the sidewalk and luckily Douglas has wide sidewalks. It seems as if people are too busy lumbering down the streets in their SUVs way too fast in the quest to be on time for work to look out for bicyclists (or even pedestrians, as I have walked to work).

    3. I love the marked lanes. It will just take time, and much more frequent use by cyclists for motorists to get used to us being there. And more and better biking infrastructure is what is needed for there to be more cyclists feeling safe enough to get out on the roads. Public education geared towards the motorists and cyclists alike is essential; both have to obey the traffic laws to get along.
